FanimeCon Fashion Show 2022 model application: Apply here! Applications are open until April 30th, 2022.

Thank you for your interest in participating as a fashion show model! We will be hosting two fashion shows, Elegant and Pop!, that showcase a variety of J-Fashion styles. Please familiarize yourself with this FAQ and feel free to reach out to us at with any questions.

About the fashion shows:

This year we are presenting two Japanese street fashion shows – Pop! and Elegant. Our Elegant Fashion Show is most suitable for those who design styles that can be described as EGL, ouji, otome, natural kei, mori girl, etc. Our Pop! Fashion Show is most suitable for those whose styles can be described as fairy kei, decora, menhera, gyaru, etc.

Who is eligible to apply as a fashion show model?

We are looking for a variety of J-Fashion models of all sizes and genders! Models must have proof of full vaccination per San Jose city mandates and FanimeCon guidelines, and be 18 or older at the time of the fashion show. Please indicate on the application form if you require any special accommodations and we will try to meet your needs to the best of our abilities.

How are models chosen?

Models are chosen by each participating brand on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Can I choose which brand I want to model for?

Models may indicate their brand preferences, but there is no guarantee of modeling for your preferred brand.

Can I participate in both fashion shows?

Yes, the fashion shows are on different days, so you may apply to participate in both.

Will I receive a convention badge if I am selected as a model?

All models are required to purchase convention badges for the days they are modeling and can apply for reimbursement for the hours that they worked using the Panels badge reimbursement scale. For more details, please visit the Panel FAQ page here

Will I be asked to provide my own clothing or accessories?

Models may be asked to bring accessories, legwear, petticoats, or wigs, depending on the brand that they model for.

Will I need to prepare my own hair and makeup?

This year, as a COVID-19 precaution, we are limiting the number of people we can allow in the dressing room space and will not have additional staff for hair and makeup. Designers may expect models to be able to style themselves to match the designer’s runway collection and will give instructions in advance if this is the case.

What kind of time commitment can I expect?

Models should expect to be available 4 hours before each fashion show. The prep time allows for models to get styled, dressed, receive walking instructions, practice their walk, and have their photos taken.

What kind of COVID-19 precautions will be taken to ensure the safety of models?

Models will be asked to wear masks as much as possible while getting ready in the dressing rooms. We will be limiting the number of models in each show in order to not overcrowd the dressing rooms, and models will be asked to social distance when possible. However, due to the potential close-contact nature of fashion shows, we must ask that anyone who does not feel safe in close proximity to others to not apply this year.

As a reminder, all models must provide proof of vaccination.

If I can no longer participate in the fashion show, what should I do?

If you are no longer able to commit to participating in the fashion show, please email us at We understand that sometimes there are last-minute circumstances (sickness, car accidents, etc.) that may prevent you from modeling – please contact us ASAP if this is the case.
