Accessibility

FanimeCon is proud to be “By Fans, For Fans”, and this includes fans of all ability levels. We strive to provide reasonable accommodations to attendees, staff, and volunteers with protected disabilities as best as we can.

Requests

Questions and requests can be made in advance with Access at accessibility@fanime.com, or in person at con by visiting Convention Operations (Con Ops) in the San Carlos room located on the second floor of the Hilton San Jose. If urgent, ask the nearest staff member to contact Con Ops and ask to speak to Access.

Accommodation request forms are available at Con Ops. These are not required to request accommodations, but do streamline the process for you and our staff. They allow you to write what accommodations you are requesting on a single reusable form, so that you can simply present the pre-written form to relevant staff each time you need to request accommodations.

If your accommodations require advance planning, please give us appropriate lead time to facilitate your request, preferably 30 days prior to the start of the convention.

As a volunteer-run organization, FanimeCon is always looking for volunteers to help us make the convention a better place for everyone. If you are interested in working with us, please send us an email after the convention.

Information

Carts & Wheeled Bags

The use of a personal two-wheeled cart or bag for medical reasons can be offered as an accommodation to those who need it. Attendees wishing to request such accommodations should do so by visiting ConOps and submitting their wheeled device to be inspected and marked as permitted for entry to the San Jose Convention Center.

Excluding the above, non-medical wheeled devices are not permitted within the Convention Center space per the Code of Conduct. Medical wheeled devices, which include Wheelchairs and Mobility Devices (see section below), as well as childcare safety devices (like strollers) when transporting children, are generally permitted without needing to request accommodations.

Elevators

There are three sets of elevators available for those who need them. The primary elevator (E6) is located in the center of the San Jose Convention Center, next to Artist Alley, and serves the lower level (Panels), ground level, and second-level concourse. The other sets of elevators are located within the adjoined hotels, the San Jose Marriott and Hilton San Jose, and serve the ground level and second-story concourse only.

Elevator use is prioritized for those with mobility issues that necessitate their use. Heavy use of the elevators throughout the weekend causes them to break down more often, so if you are able to use the stairs or escalators instead, please do so and help alleviate this issue.

If elevator E6 breaks down during the convention, an alternative elevator will be opened within the San Jose Convention Center to maintain service, and this page will be updated to reflect that. Elevator E6 is currently operational.

We’re looking into having more elevators available for use within the San Jose Convention Center next year. This was unfortunately not possible in 2026 due to staffing shortages.

Interpreters

ASL interpretation services may be arranged for specific events upon advanced request. Logistical requirements in securing an interpreter make it important to inform us with enough lead time to facilitate your request. Past the 30 day window prior to con, we will make our best effort but cannot make any promises. We have received feedback and are evaluating potential solutions for future years that do not require such advanced notice, including closed captioning for major events.

Lines / Queues

Attendees with difficulty being in line should approach the staff managing the room or line to request accommodations. Some events may accommodate finding a place to sit while waiting in line, or permit early entry into the event, or provide a ticket with a time to return to bypass the line.

Registration / Badge Pickup Line: A dedicated accessible entrance to bypass the line for Registration can be found by the main exit of Registration. Please approach the nearest Attendee Relations or Registration staff member for help.

Lactation Room

The San Jose Convention Center offers a Lactation Room on the second floor of the Convention Center, outside Artist Alley near the bathrooms. It is available during the operating hours of the convention to all who require the space. If you have any difficulty accessing or using the room, please find the nearest staffer and ask for assistance.

Restrooms

All-gender restrooms will be located throughout the San Jose Convention Center. In other areas, feel free to use the restroom that most closely matches your gender identity. All restrooms have at least one ADA accessible stall. Restroom locations are indicated on the convention map.

Seating

Priority seats for those with disabilities will be reserved in all major seating areas throughout FanimeCon and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. These seats are designated with blue seat covers and shall remain unoccupied by regular attendees until all other seats in the room are taken. If you have difficulty locating a seat, please find the nearest staffer and ask for assistance.

Sensory Accessibility (Quiet Room)

There is a Quiet Room at The Oasis in the DoubleTree San Jose for those with sensory sensitivities.

DoubleTree San Jose Hotel – Carmel Room
Friday – Sunday: 6:00 pm – 1:00 am

There is no Quiet Room available in the San Jose Convention Center in 2026. We have received feedback and are working to secure a dedicated space within the San Jose Convention Center in future years.

If you’re looking for a place with seating and low noise levels to relax, check out Manga Lounge.

Service Animals

Trained service animals currently assisting a person with a disability, as defined by the ADA, are the only animals permitted in the Convention Center space. Pets and companion animals are not allowed in the Convention Center space per the Code of Conduct.

Shuttles

An ADA-accessible shuttle will be available during normal shuttle hours, picking up and serving the normal shuttle stop locations. If it is not currently at your stop, please let the current shuttle driver know, and they will request a direct pickup.

Wheelchairs and Mobility Devices

FanimeCon covers a large area, including the San Jose Convention Center and surrounding hotels. While mobility aids are not available for rent from the convention directly, you can rent from a vendor and have the aid delivered to FanimeCon. Here is one vendor that we suggest: https://www.cloudofgoods.com/san-jose-ca
