Who is eligible to apply as a fashion show model?

We are looking for J-Fashion models of all sizes and genders! Models must be 18 or older at the time of the fashion show. Please indicate on the application form if you require any special accommodations, and we will try to meet your needs to the best of our abilities. Please email us directly if you have any questions regarding accommodations.

Models are expected to be respectful of all Fanime Staff, the J-Fashion Department, and their Fashion Show designers. Failure to do so will result in forfeiting your participation as a model.

How are models chosen?

Models are chosen by participating brands on a first-come, first-served basis. The FanimeCon J-Fashion Department does not guarantee that all applicants will be chosen or which models will be selected by which brands.

Can I choose which brand I want to model for?

Models may indicate their brand preferences, but there is no guarantee of modeling for your preferred brand.

What will I need to submit to the model application?

Models must submit their measurements, any style preferences, and a maximum of five photographs. Photos do not need to be professionally taken, but should be recent and clear enough for designers to see your face and body.

Suggested photos:

  • 1 headshot (plain, minimal, or natural makeup)
  • 1 full body (plain, such as casual clothes or semi-fitted clothing)
  • 1 example of makeup (optional)
  • 2 styled shots (J-Fashion coordinates, cosplay photos, or model photoshoots)

Please make sure to read the application thoroughly before submitting. Failure to follow application instructions may result in removal from the model selection pool.

Can I participate in both fashion shows?

Yes, the fashion shows are on different days, so you may apply to participate in both.

Will I receive a convention badge if I am selected as a model?

While models are not required to purchase a convention badge for the days they are modeling, if they purchase a badge, they may apply for full reimbursement once they have fulfilled their model duties. Models who do not purchase a badge will not be able to enter any other areas of the convention, aside from the dressing room and runway room.

Confirmed models with badges will be provided with a link to submit their reimbursement requests.

Will I be paid for modeling?

Modeling for the FanimeCon Fashion Shows is a volunteer position and we do not offer any monetary compensation for participating.

Will I be asked to provide my own clothing or accessories?

Models may be asked to bring accessories, legwear, petticoats, or wigs, depending on the brand they model for.

Will I need to prepare my own hair and makeup?

Yes, models are expected to do their own hair and makeup. Hair and makeup services are not provided by the convention. Designers will reach out to models with instructions on how they expect models to be styled to match the designer’s runway collection.

What kind of time commitment can I expect?

Pre-Con: Once Fashion Show designers select their models, they will reach out to discuss looks and styling to plan makeup, hair, and any supplementary items provided by models. Models are expected to be communicative with both the FanimeCon J-Fashion Department as well as their Fashion Show designer. Additionally, models must commit to reading and following all written instructions. Failure to respond to emails in a timely manner, or consistent lack of communication, may result in removal from participation in the fashion show.

At-Con: Models should expect to be available for approximately four hours before each show they are walking, as well as for the entire duration of the show. The prep time allows for models to get dressed, receive walking instructions, practice their walk, and have their photos taken.

Models are expected to arrive at the call time with hair and makeup already done.

We also offer optional practice hours on Friday for models who would like to familiarize themselves with the runway layout or work on poses.

If I can no longer participate in the fashion show, what should I do?

If you are no longer able to commit to participating in a fashion show, please email us at jfashion@fanime.com. We understand that sometimes there are last-minute circumstances (sickness, car accidents, etc) that may prevent you from modeling – please contact us ASAP if this is the case.

What if I am not selected as a model?

Applicants may choose to join a wait list of backup models that will be contacted in the case of any dropouts.

If you have any further questions, please contact us at jfashion@fanime.com.
