FanimeCon J-Fashion

J-Fashion describes the alternative fashion subculture movement popularized in Harajuku in the 1990s. Nowadays, it is a worldwide phenomenon enjoyed by kawaii enthusiasts everywhere. Join us at the Hyatt Place for all things J-fashion, including workshops, community events, contests, fashion shows, the Community Fashion Walk, and the Trunk Show shopping area!


Fashion Show Information

The Elegant Fashion Show will encompass styles such as lolita fashion, EGL, EGA, ouji, otome, or natural kei. These styles often take inspiration from fashion history and use beautiful and intricate garment details to make its wearers feel like royalty!

Do you love the fun, kawaii, and colorful side of J-Fashion? Ready your accessories and grab your glitter! The Pop! Fashion Show will feature styles such as fairy kei, decora, gyaru, or menhera. These styles are often characterized by their use of bright colors, an explosion of accessories, fun prints, and a rebellious outlook on life!

Community Fashion Walk

Time to show off your coords! We are inviting all J-Fashion wearers to join us for the Community Fashion Walk on the runway in their most impressively styled outfits. Come participate in the event, or watch as an audience member!

How to Participate:

Sign-up at any time before the Fashion Walk at the J-Fashion Info Desk located at the Hyatt Place entrance. All participants should return thirty minutes before the start of the Fashion Walk to check in. Participants will be organized into walking order, and are invited to do group photos on the stage afterwards.

Please note that anyone planning to participate should be wearing recognizable J-Fashion. No costume or cosplay, please.

The Atelier: Handmade Coord Contest

The J-Fashion Handmade Coordinate Contest is for any J-Fashion coordinate where the majority of clothing is handmade by the entrant. Participants may choose to either wear the coord themselves, or showcase the coord on somebody else.

Coords must be a recognizable J-Fashion style (including, but not limited to, lolita fashion, EGA, ouji, mori kei, decora, fairy kei, gyaru, menhera, or wafuku). No cosplay entries will be allowed.

How to Enter:

Sign up at any time before the contest at the J-Fashion Info Desk located at the Hyatt Place entrance. All participants should return 30 minutes before the start of the contest to check in.

Participants will be asked to showcase their handmade coordinates on the runway, and to explain how each piece was created. Contest entries will be judged on criteria such as craftsmanship, creativity, and skill level. 

Winners will be picked by a panel of industry judges and will receive prizes donated by participating J-Fashion brands.
